A VIRTUAL  ART GALLERY  ALONG  TIME

This section has the purpose to make a synthesis, like an overview of the evolution of my paintings and drawings, from their beginning up to the moment in which my work shows an artistic conception that we can say it is valid even today (2005).

Here we can find examples of works in pencil, color pencils and the first experiments with watercolor, a media that would continue to be the preferred one until now.

Along with the first “prehistoric” drawings,  the 1959 watercolor “Autumn” deserves special attention. It reveals a totally “modern” idea of the picture, with a tracing style of lines more insinuated than precise. I would use this technique later.  Above all, this is totally poetic approach to the image.

Almost nothing or very little remains of my abstract style oil paintings of the sixties. Luckily enough, two slides and a photo have survived of a painting that I consider essential in my work, “Professor Piccard goes on vacation”.   Here there´s  a literary approach, a desire to “paint metaphors”.  From that time is also the canvas  “The Black Heralds” (based on the book by César Vallejo). Others contained fragments of poems and other illustrated  a passage from my novel (El Invernadero / The Greenhouse, 1970).  All these paintings are lost.

These experiments, as well as the drawings made with markers between 1970-1973, reveal the desire to link literature with image in a single visual metaphor.  “Caligrama 1974” is the first fully accomplished work in this sense, starting the last phase of my work in which I am still involved.

Other images, such as the woman -reptile, belong to several notebooks where I have been annotating and drawing in full color, specially interesting visions: objects,  animals o beings that only exist in dreams. I even have the project to actually fabricate these objects or images, modeling them in ceramics or other appropriate media, and using the colors from the dream-world dimension, which I attempted to recreate in my dream diaries.

I think all these drawings and paintings, covering about 53 years of my life, show a remarkable unity from their origins to their more mature expression.
